PARK NAMING CONTEST

Help us name our brand new park in Lanark Landing!

Earlier this month, we asked the residents of Airdrie for their help in naming a park for this brand new community. The best names have been chosen as finalists, and now we need your help on voting on the final name for the new park in Lanark Landing!

ABOUT OUR FINALISTS: Thank you so much to everyone who submitted name ideas, we appreciated all of your thoughtful suggestions. Read below to learn more about our finalists, and some other names we thought were deserving of an honourable mention!

  1. Clyde Park – Submitted by Sarah Barnsley, Janet Greaves and Nicole McKenna. Clyde comes from the name of River Clyde located in Lanark Scotland.
  2. Cornerstone Park – Submitted by Lori Ferguson. A cornerstone is the first stone set in a masonry foundation – once set in place this stone is celebrated for marking the beginning of the structure.
  3. Castlebank Park – Submitted by Ashley Hassan. In Lanark Scotland, Castlebank Park is a well-known landmark located near Lanark Castle.
  4. Strathaven Park – Submitted by Sarah Barnsley. Strathaven is the name of a historical market town founded in 1450 located in South Lanarkshire Scotland.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS: We would also like to give an honourable mention to Mo Tonelli for the submission of “Castlegate” (similar to Castlebank). We’d also like to thank Heather Noseworthy for the submission of Céilidh Park – Céilidh (pronounced cay-lee) is a word that refers to, “a social event at which there is Scottish or Irish folk music and singing, traditional dancing, and storytelling”. We’ll likely be using this name elsewhere in the community, so thank you for this submission!
